Photographic Art

The position of photographic art and the field of art has strengthened since the 1980s. There is also demand for Finnish photographic art around the world. Our task is to support the work of Finland's approximately 500 photographic artists and to ensure that their art is displayed in public.

The funds allocated by the National Council for Photographic Art allow photographic artists to hold exhibitions throughout Finland. Members of the public can view photographic art in both private galleries and galleries run by artist associations.

Finland has ten regional photography centres that organise photography exhibitions and offer courses, workshops and other activities. These photography centres are located across Finland in Oulu, Kuopio, Lapua, Jyväskylä, Tampere, Turku, Mikkeli, Lappeenranta, Kotka and Karjaa.

Each year 7 to 10 photographic art books are published with the assistance of quality support, which has been awarded since 1982.
