Theatre
The National Council for Theatre supports individual artists in the field of the theatrical arts, as well as the working conditions of professional non independent theatre groups. Ensuring the accessibility and diversity of theatre is also an important part of the council's work.
The National Council for Theatre supports professional theatres that do not receive state subsidies by virtue of the Act on Central Government Transfers to Local Governments. In 2011 a total of 40 independent theatre groups received discretionary operational subsidies. Since the biggest expense for drama theatres consists of personnel costs, the focus of support is mainly on the artists themselves.
The majority of state support for theatre is allocated by the Ministry of Education and Culture, in part as central government transfers. Currently 48 drama theatres and 10 dance theatres are included within the scope of the Act on Central Government Transfers to Local Governments.
