Cinema
The cinematic arts are an important part of our national culture, and the state supports artists, production companies and other actors in cinematic culture in order to support the operating conditions for this artform in Finland. Production and distribution support for films is awarded by the Finnish Film Foundation, which allocates the majority of financial support for cinema. The task of the National Council for Cinema is to support the work of artists in this field and to maintain our national cinema culture.
The National Council for Cinema supports, for example, film events and the activities of regional film centres, which organise events, presentations and workshops that are open to the public and run film clubs. These film centres play an important role in maintaining a strong cinema culture in Finland.
In addition, the National Council for Cinema awards quality support for film productions with high artistic merit. This support enables production companies to work on their own terms and promotes experimental films that are not dependent on ticket sales.
